Winter 2010
South - Vitality in Mexico
I decided to go to Mexico for a couple of weeks so Sky could be with his daddy during David's long stent away. I helped David prepare for his tours, took care of Sky, and tried to enjoy myself as thoroughly as possible. Sky immediately felt at home and energized as we walked though the town plaza bustling with people. We visited old friends and ate the traditional foods, tacos, tamales, and tortilla soup.
I had recently taken a qi gung intensive, so I practiced daily in the garden where we were staying. The warm sun and aromatic flowers filled my body with vitality. David took me flying almost every evening for the glass-off. The conditions were smoothe and bouyant, which made my return to flying blissful.
Sky knew how to set up the gear, and to put on the helmet and gloves. He loved being involved and watching the final result of free flight. Finally, David rigged up a safe harness system for him and flew him tandem. He was not sure initially in flight, but as soon as David adjusted the seat, he settled in and enjoyed the ride. Everyday now he wants to go fly.
On the winter solstice, my good friend, Mirna, invited me to a temazcal (sweat lodge) ceremony. It involved preparation of an altar with flowers. With copal smoke and rattles, we invoked the the seven directions. As we honored the sky, a hawk circled above us in its majesty. Then, one by one, we kneeled down do enter the womb for the four doors (sessions). We sweat and sang and prayed for several hours. It was the longest sweat lodge I had ever done, and it became too much for me. I left after the third door. I felt rejuvinated and was glad to preserve my energy in the end.
Warmth, water, sunshine, green plants, and oxygen are rich in Mexico. This is why it is such a healing place to me. I hiked along a fern-lined stream with my friend, Morgan, one day. We made a new friend with a big, scruffy dog and stumbled upon a family of small, glowing mushrooms. That playful day reminded me how much love and life is all around us waiting to be noticed.
If you need some rejuvination, consider a retreat in Mexico. We go to small towns where we are immersed in the language and culture of the people. We visit places of amazing natural beauty and vitality. Contact me to organize a retreat for you or your group or to learn more.
